Prefete Duffaut Representing Haiti

Prefete Duffaut (1918 - 1984) Duffaut was a writer as well as painter, was born in 1923 in Jacmel, Haiti; and began making art at the age of 12. A self-taught painter, Duffaut joined the Port-au-Prince based Art Center, the leading support organization for Haiti's many naif and folk artists. Also in Port-au-Prince, he painted a mural at Holy Trinity Cathedral.

 

Duffaut has exhibited in Dakar Senegal, the Brooklyn Museum, the Allentown Pennsylvania Art Museum, the Nice-based International Museum of Naive Art, at Paris' Grand Palais, and in several touring exhibitions, as well as in commercial galleries throughout North America and Europe.
