Ernst Fuchs Representing Austria
Ernst Fuchs (1930 - 2015) During the 1950s, Fuchs lived in Paris with artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. He immersed himself in the classics and absorbed works by Nietzsche, Meyrink, Lao-Tze, and Freud. He later traveled extensively in Israel and the United States.
His paintings from the late 50s to the present day have extraordinary visionary power. Babylonian Cherubs, visions of Christ, and other mythological subjects explore the roots of Middle Eastern religious experience. The power of colour, form, and content, set his work apart from modernism.
